Creativity is Messy

I'm working on a new artist's book, Seen/Unseen, a collaboration between me and my friend Judith Serin. Judith died before she could see the book finished. (If you read my last newsletter, I talked about another collaboration we did together.)

This one is about my experience of having a stroke when I was 31, alongside Judith's experience of being on the other end of the phone while I was in the hospital. It's a book I've started and stopped more times than I can count, partly because every time I work on it, I get melancholy.

So I'm going back to the beginning—again. The first step is testing papers. I need to find a paper that folds beautifully, prints well (I’m using an inkjet for this), and generally behaves itself.

TADA!

Here are some of the contestants.

I'm thinking the Bugra is the winner for the background paper, and the Hahnemuhle Biblio is the winner for the middle ground and fore ground paper. We'll see once I price them!
